Drumstick recipe

Here is a rustic drumstick curry recipe which is delicious and tasty.

Ingredients:

2 chopped onions and tomato, 8-9 curry leaves, 2 slant chopped potatoes, 3 long drumsticks, cumin, green chili, mustard, garlic, red chili and coriander powder, cooking oil, and some coriander

Process:

1. Add oil to a pan and heat it, add mustard, cumin, fine chopped onions and saute.
2. After onion becomes a light brown shade, add green chili and curry leaves and saute.
3. Add drumsticks and slant chopped potatoes, fry for two to three minutes to remove the raw smell from the drumstick.
4. Add fine chopped tomatoes, some salt, and turmeric. Fry in open pan, do not cover with the lid and fry till tomato turns soft.
5. Add red chili, coriander, and garlic powder and saute for two minutes.
6. Pour water just enough to cover the drumsticks and cook on a medium flame till it turns little dark in color.
Your tasty delicious drumstick curry is ready to serve with steamed rice.

Magnificent Mary Kom's life story

Magnificent Mary Kom, very well known an Indian Boxer who has won five times World Boxing championship. She received 5 gold medals, recently won a gold medal at Vietnam for the light-flyweight category in ASBC Asian Women's Boxing Championship on 8 November 2017. Mary Kom born on 24th November 1982, Her full name is Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte. She was born and brought up in a poor Manipur family. She has two siblings- one younger brother and one younger sister. She belongs to the tribal community of India's northeastern state, Manipur.


Her passion for Boxing has commenced since childhood by watching videos of Mohammad Ali boxing on television. She got more inspiration from the male boxer, Dingko Singh who lived in Manipur. The success of Dingko Singh in the 1998 Asian Games ignited the passion of boxing in the Mary Kom's life. She started her boxing training in 2000, under M Narjit Singh, Manipur State Boxing Coach. Mary Kom tried to keep her boxing interest secret from her family, as her family was in oppose to her boxing. Her family was in solicitude that boxing is not a woman sport. She won the State Level Championship in 2000 itself. When her father saw pictures of her winning State-level Championship in the newspaper, he was still unhappy and showing the disapproval of her boxing interest. Days later Mary made her mind and finally she able to convince her family. After that, there was no looking back.

Mary Kom started boxing at the international level at the age of 18. In 2001, she won the silver medal in her first AIBA World Women's Boxing Championship at Scranton, USA. But she won the gold medal in the second AIBA World Women's Senior Boxing Championship in 2002, Antalya, Turkey.  Her determination to succeed in the world of boxing won her many medals including a bronze medal in 2012 Olympics.

"I still remember I was castigated by my father who said with battered and bruised face, I should not expect to get married. He was furious that I took to boxing - a taboo for women- and he did not have the slightest idea about it. But my passion for the sport had got the better of me and I thank my cousins who coaxed and cajoled my father into eventually giving his nod. I'm happy that I did not let anyone down." she told the Deccan Herald in September 2004.

Mary Kom married early in the year 2005 to her longtime friend Karung Onkholer Kom. Now they have twins as their children. It was then everyone thought that her career is over in sports. But it was never like that. Mary Kom made a classic come back with the great willpower to win and show her talent. She proved that everything is possible if you set your body, mind, heart, and soul into your dream. She started training again and rebuilt her body, stamina, and strength. She silenced the skeptics by winning the Silver medal in the year 2008, Asian games and gold medal at China's AIBA World Women's Boxing Championship.

Mary Kom went on to represent India in Boxing, 51Kg for the first times at the Olympics on 1st October 2014. Kom was only to qualify and she went on to win the Bronze for India. She did not stop here, she won her fifth gold medal in the light-flyweight category of the Asian Women's Boxing Championship held at Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam on 8 November 2017. It was a proud moment for every Indian. Mary Kom had become an Inspiration to many.

OTC Drugs and Their Side Effects

Have you ever taken medication without doctors permission?? (I know your answer here 'Obviously Yes')or Have you ever bought drugs without the prescription??(I know your answer here too 'Yes')
But many of us don't know how these OTC drugs can be harmful too.

"Over The Counter" (OTC) drugs are the drug you can get without prescription at chemist or drugstore. Basically, OTC drugs are safe to use and which are intended to treat short-term illnesses. The reason people prefer OTC drugs are- easy to understand it's mode of action, readily available at groceries or pharmacies, less expensive than going to the doctor and paying his checkup fees plus less costly than prescribed medication. That's all to the good if OTC drugs are used correctly for a particular condition and in proper dosage and for no longer than the recommended time. Over the counter(OTC) drugs are most often used to treat ailments like heartburn, headaches and other pains, fever, cold and cough. As per FDA (Food Drug Administration) till date, there are more than 300,000 Over-The-Counter drugs on the market. This number will continue to grow if more prescription drug moves to OTC lists.

In some cases, even if OTC are taken correctly, there can be some problems because patients with the certain health condition are needed to be aware of it's side effects, drug-drug reactions, drug-food reactions. For example, people with heart disease or hypertension people are warned not to take aspirin without doctor's permission.

A study of 500 people carried at Northwestern University in Chicago by Dr, Micheal Wolf and published in 2012  for "Risk of unintentional overdose with the non-prescription acetaminophen products" which revealed OTC medication containing acetaminophen could lead to acute liver failure.  The potential for side effects and adverse events due to unintentional misuse of these OTC products is substantial, particularly among heavy users of acetaminophen and those with limited literacy.

How OTC drugs are harmful

It's hard to say. As far as form and dosage of OTC are unknown it's difficult to say harmfulness of OTC drug. It's not easy to determine the fatal dose of Over-the-counter drugs, I will explain you with an example of Acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is an active ingredient in Tylenol, Panadol, Percocet and many others. Acetaminophen in general term is also called as Paracetamol(generic name). Acetaminophen work is to reduce fever and give relief from pain (pain of mild to moderate scale). Studies of humans have reported 'liver failure' as a side effect of Acetaminophen when it exceeds the optimal dose(dose of a drug that will produce desired effects). Drug acceptance rate varies widely on factors including the condition of the liver, ingested drug dose, whether the pill is taken in conjunction with alcohol, etc. Acetaminophen has narrow safety margin as compared to other Over-the-counter drugs. Doctors have reported liver failure if consumed Acetaminophen 2.5 grams in a day. Approved dose limit is 1.5 grams or less.

Another of these OTC's is Dramamine, the popular name brand for motion sickness pill. If abused, Dramamine side effects may include hallucinations, restlessness, blurred vision, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur.

Diet pills sold over the counter carry their own risks when abused; the negative side effects often include heart palpitations. In some cases, individuals become addicted to OTC diet pills within weeks of the first dose.

Other OTC medications of cough suppressant and cold medicines containing dextromethorphan(DXM) can be safe and effective when taken as recommended, but they can also be abused and can lead to serious adverse health consequences. Some of it's side effects include double or blurred vision, impaired physical coordination, rapid heartbeat, drowsiness, numbness, and disorientation. Similarly, cold medicines containing active ingredients like Pseudoephedrine which is a stimulant. Abuse of this medication can cause you hallucinations and intense 'body high'.

Scenarios for adverse reaction of OTC drugs

Older adults often use many medications at the same time, including prescriptions and OTC medicines. Their body process medicines differently than younger adults. There might be chances of adverse reaction between drugs or between drug and food.

Duplication of drugs leads to overdose

Many patients get catch hold of the drug overdose, sometimes they don't realize how much of drug they are taking. For an example, if you take OTC medication Ibuprofen (Brand names- Advil, Motrin) along with the prescribed anti-inflammatory drug Aspirin( Brand name- Ecosprin) by your doctor, then this will cause damage to your kidney.

Food-drug reaction

Food may alter how your body processes medications. Medicines taken by orally must be absorbed through the lining of the stomach or small intestine. But at the same time nutrients from food, you eat also needs to be absorbed through the lining of the stomach. If you take medicine with the food when it's not recommended, a possible interaction is that your body might not be able to absorb the medicine as it should.
Similarly, abusers of OTC medications, who mix alcohol with it, can put users at risk for internal bleedings, heart problems, and difficulties in breathing.

Especially parents with teenagers should be aware of the potential for abuse of these medications and side effects of these OTC's when taken in large quantities, which should signal concerns and the possible need for intervention and treatments. Shred the cucumber and extract the juice from it. Using a cotton ball apply the extract on the skin and let it dry. Wash it off after 5-10 minutes.

6. Lemon and Sugar

A lemon slice can do wonders in removing tan. Glycolic acid fro sugar will rejuvenate the skin and bleaching property of lemon clears out your skin.

Cut a full lemon into the half. Take a tablespoon of sugar and half tablespoon juice of a lemon. Mix it well. Use this mixture to any part of your body affected with the suntan.

7. Red Lentil 

Red lentils(masoor dal) are an outstanding source of vitamins, essential proteins, fibers, iron, etc. Red lentils possess anti-ageing properties. 

Soak red lentils in water for about 2-3 hours. Strain it. Grind that soaked red lentils and make a thick paste. Add tomato juice into it. Apply to the affected areas.

8. Tomato and yogurt

Tomato has the citric properties and also lycopene present in tomato helps in removing tan. If you wish to remove dark spots and pigmentations, this pack is worth a try. The tomato extract also works as a toner.

Take a tablespoon of plain yogurt. Take a tablespoon of tomato extract in a bowl. Mix both the ingredient well. Apply the paste to suntan area. Let it dry for half an hour and wash off with normal water.

9. Potato

Potato has been used since ages to lighten the skin tone and under eye dark circles. Potato juice is also a potent bleaching agent.

Make a juice of raw potato strain it and apply on affected areas to get rid of tan. Keep this for 10-12 minutes. Wash off once it dries.


10. Turmeric and gram flour

Gram flour is always available at every other home. Gram flour is very helpful in removing dead skin cells and giving a natural glow to the skin. Turmeric powder adds a natural glow to the skin by removing tan.

Take 2 tablespoons of gram flour, add a pinch of turmeric powder and add rose water to form a thick paste. Apply to the affected areas. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. Very helpful in removing tan.

As we know, prevention is always better than cure. Healthy glowing skin gets from inside and unless your skin is getting the required nutrients and care, then it simply looks it's best. Applying this packs can heal you from outside but not from inside.

As you know eggs are incredibly healthy. Eggs helps the body to function and regulate properly. This why experts recommend eating 2-3 eggs a day, except in cases of diabetes or heart problems, when you should eat only 3 eggs a week.
