What is the treatment of Dengue_Preventions is the only way to rid of Dengue, Is it

What is called Dengue

Dengue (pronunciation- Dangee) is mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread over tropical and subtropical areas in recent years. Dengue also called 'Breakbone fever'. Sometimes Dengue proven to be deadly in some areas of world.

Dengue is transmitted by female mosquito mainly of species Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus. This mosquito becomes infected when it bites a healthy person with dengue virus in their blood. Severe Dengue (also known as Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever) was recognised in Thailand and Philippines during dengue epidemic in 1950s.
Approx 390 million people are getting affected with Dengue every year worldwide.

  • High Fever(40°C/104°F)
  • Severe Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Dehyrations
  • Vomiting
  • Pain behind eyes
  • Severe joint and muscular pain
  • Rash (usually appears after 5 days)
  • Lowers number of platelets in blood
Many times this symptoms are mistakenly diagnosed with other viral infections or flu, but couple of lab test should be performed in the initial days of onset of symptoms. If symptoms and infections are not treated then it give massive complication like bleeding, shocks, etc and progress the infection to Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) which leads to death of a patient. Consult doctors for such symptoms. Tests like NS1 test and IgM ELISA test should be performed to confirm Dengue fever.

Confirmatory tests

  • NS1 antigen : NS1 (non structural protein 1) test for dengue antibodies detection in blood samples. This test should be conducted only during the early parts of dengue infection, which is clinically within first to five days of onsets of symptoms then only it gives true results otherwise if performed after five days then it gives false results.
  • IgM and IgG Elisa : These are antibodies based test which should be performed after five days and it is confirmatory test. Patients with known or suspected dengue fever should have their platelets and Hematocrit measured daily after onsets of symptoms.

Dengue prone areas

  • Indian subcontinent
  • Taiwan
  • Southeast Asia
  • Southern China
  • Maxico
  • Africa
  • Some part in The Caribbean
  • Central and south America
Aedes Aegypti

Aedes aegypti is primary vector of dengue. Dengue is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquito Aedes aegypti. Its possible to become infected by dengue multiple times because the virus has four different antigens. Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus also transmits Chikungunya, West nile fever and yellow fever.

Use mosquito repellants, even indoors.
Wear full/longed sleeve clothes and full length pants
Get rid of places where mosquito breeds.
Disposal of solid waste should be properly managed.
Cleaning, covering and emptying water storage containers on weekly basis.
Use of insecticides materials, coils, vaporizers.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Avoid Aspirin Medicine during symptoms onset.

Papaya leaves

  • Because dengue caused by virus there was no specific medicine for it but to relieve painful fever doctors usually prescribe Acetaminophen as it alleviate pain and the fever. Aspirin and Ibuprofen medication should not be taken by the patient to relieve pain and fever. Recent studies showed aspirin provoke and increase risk of the bleeding because Aspirin also have Anticoagulation property. So please avoid taking Ibuprofen and aspirin in Dengue.

  • The recent study was conducted to investigate the platelet increasing property of Carica papaya leaves juice. The results astonished everyone and concluded Carica papaya leaves juice does significantly increase the platelet count in patients with Dengue Fever and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever. Carica papaya is a member of Caricaceae which is originated from southern Mexico, Central America and northern part of South America, but its now been cultivated in many countries like India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The final results at least proved Carica papaya leaves juice has the potential to induce rapid production of platelets in Dengue Fever. Best medication till now is Papaya leaves extract. Procedure- Take 5-10 leaves of Papaya. Wash thoroughly. Grind it in juicer till fine liquid. Strain it. Dosage: Drink 25 ml of juice twice a day for consecutively 5-6 days. This drink really helps from stepping out of Dengue.

  • In early 2016 one vaccine is discovered the first dengue vaccine Dengvaxia (CYD-TDV) by Sanofi Pasteur, was Licensed in several countries for use in Mexico, Brazil and Philippines in individuals age range 9-45 years.WHO recommends that countries should be considered for this vaccine only in epidemic areas. Complete recommendations you will get from this link. WHO First dengue vaccine 2016
